BOM Challenge...Where you at?

I just finished 2nd Nephi before soccer practices last night.

Starting Jacob during my break here at work today.

If Jacob Ch. 5 doesn't prove the Joseph Smith is a Prophet and didn't make this stuff up, then nothing does.

Sound in on where you are at folks...

I have a challenge (not a bet, because we can't do that anymore) with my oldest daughter. (She is 13) If I finish first, she has to take me to lunch at Olive Garden. If she finishes first, I have to take her to dinner at Outback Steakhouse. (I will end up paying if I win too, but she is sure motivated right now.)

3 Nephi 9

But we read lots of chapters with the kids, so we get an unfair advantage.

I'm motoring along. 3rd chapter of 1st Nephi.

2 Nephi 10 heading into the part we told investigators to skip and come back to later.

If you are reading two chapters a day and want to finish on Dec 31, today should be 2 Nephi 14-15.

At that pace, you should be done by, what, 2007? Nice work.

I'm at 2 Nephi 10, getting ready to head into the black hole of the BOM. At 5 pages a day, could be a rough 3 days.

Olive Garden?

You win AND you have to go to the Olive Garden? Sounds like a no-win situation to me.

MikeWaters 09-21-2005 08:01 PM

I have the same contest with my son. So far I'm 3 chapters ahead.

tooblue 09-21-2005 08:06 PM

We are still in 1 Nephi, Nephi is about to break his bow ... we'll catch up though!

I try to read 2 chapters a day

I just finished Alma 37.

My wife finished last month as part of a YW(she's in the presidency) challenge. They had 2 months to read the whole thing and those who did got to go to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor for free. 3 YW did it.

At one point in 2003 I had three concurrent BoM challenges: my bishopric, my institute class, and my cousin (reading it in a foreign language on her mission, asked me to keep her pace).

Why don't they ever challenge us to read the New Testament?

2Nephi Chapter 2 proves it to me...

My wife is teaching early morning seminary this year. She taught 2Ne2 today. I asked a whole buch of questions about it - did you mention this? did you mention this? did you mention this? etc...

But 2Ne2 is IMO the MOST IMPORTANT single chapter of scripture that we as LDS's have. It contains many of the 'plain and simple truths,' and makes unneccessary most of the work ot two millenia of christian theologians.

Tomorrow, I get to get up at 5:00 am to do a review of 2ne2 with her class - while she makes traditional Friday Seminary waffles. I'll like the waffles, but I'm keeping my mouth shut next time...
