I ran across this formula as I was browsing the roadbikerider.com website.

Its pretty simple and it worked for what I'm riding :

Take your pants inseam length, convert inches to centimeters by multiplying by 2.54.

Multiply that number by 0.7.

Round to the nearest cm.

So really the formula is that the seat post should be .7 of your in seam. The conversion to cm is only needed becasue of those silly euros and their insistence on that napoleonic metric thing.

This is a good rule of thumb but it only goes so far, as I am sure you know, especially if you have any strange body dimensions, such as really short legs or some such.
