It gives nifty stuff to those who finish the 109 miler under five hours.

Any takers?

Lots here in Vegas do it.

The winners do it in about 4 hours 19 minutes.

Wow, under 5 hours is tough if there's any kind of climbing involved. Do you generally finish your centuries in under 5 hours Archaea?

My dad and I just did the HHH century (miles, not km) in 4hr 53min.

My dad is 56 and had one ride over 30 miles this entire season. I pulled much of the last 20 miles (instead of being in a train) because my dad couldn't hold my wheel when I was on other people's wheels. So that put a significant cramp into my own time.

But I was esp. proud of my dad.

Note: this course was very flat.

and otherwise is flat.

I generally finish with my friends, who are mostly the go slow type people, but on occasion I can finish in the 4:40 range.

It depends upon the rhythm and how strong your group is.

The least amount of climb I've ever had in a century was 4500 ft. Most are in the 7-8000 foot range which is why I expressed amazement that you are finishing that fast. I've never tried a flat one, but I bet it would be fun to get a few guys together and see how fast you could get it done working together.

hilly ones, the pacelines break up

on flat ones, you fly.
